Signs of Cold Stress in Butterfly weed
Symptoms
Butterfly weed tolerates cold well and flourishes best when temperatures exceed 70℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 60℉. If temperatures drop below 50℉, while no immediate winter changes might be apparent, spring may see reduced or absent sprouting.
Solutions
In spring, remove any sections that have not sprouted.
Signs of Heat Stress in Butterfly weed
Symptoms
During summer, Butterfly weed should be maintained below 85℉. When temperatures surpass 90℉, the plant's foliage might lighten, curl, become prone to sunburn, and in extreme cases, the whole plant could wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
