Signs of Cold Stress in River birch
Symptoms
River birch tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally above 60℉. In winter, temperatures should remain above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 30℉, while winter changes might not be obvious, branches can become brittle and dry in spring, with no new growth appearing.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in River birch
Symptoms
In summer, River birch should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, the plant's leaves may lighten, tips might dry and shrivel, and it becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
