Signs of Cold Stress in Gumbo limbo
Symptoms
Gumbo limbo favors warm conditions and cannot withstand cold. It flourishes best when temperatures exceed 68℉. In winter, it needs to be kept above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 32℉, its leaves might lose some color. Following frost damage, the foliage progressively turns brown or black, and signs like wilting and drooping can appear.
Solutions
Remove the parts affected by frost. Promptly relocate it indoors to a warm setting for protection from cold. Select a location near a south-facing window for the plant, ensuring plenty of light. Furthermore, avoid positioning the plant near heating units or AC vents to prevent overly dry air.
Signs of Heat Stress in Gumbo limbo
Symptoms
In summer, Gumbo limbo should be maintained below 86℉. When temperatures go above 95℉, the leaves' color fades, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Cut off the sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to an area that offers shade from the midday and afternoon sun. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
