Signs of Cold Stress in Red valerian
Symptoms
Red valerian tolerates cold well and grows optimally when temperatures are above 65℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 55℉. If temperatures drop below 40℉, while winter changes might not be obvious, spring may see reduced or absent sprouting.
Solutions
In spring, remove any sections that did not sprout.
Signs of Heat Stress in Red valerian
Symptoms
In summer, Red valerian should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures exceed 85℉, the plant's leaves might lighten, curl, suffer sunburn, and in severe cases, the whole plant could wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated portions. Relocate the plant to a spot shaded from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
