Signs of Cold Stress in Chinese holly
Symptoms
Chinese holly tolerates cool conditions moderately well, flourishing best when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 32℉, foliage may begin to sag. Mild cases can recover, but severe exposure leads to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before further cold exposure, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from harsh winds.
Signs of Heat Stress in Chinese holly
Symptoms
In summer, Chinese holly should be kept below 77℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, leaves may lighten in color, tips might dry and shrivel, foliage could curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to an area offering protection from intense midday and afternoon sun, or deploy a shade cloth. Water the plant during morning and evening hours to maintain soil moisture.
