Signs of Cold Stress in Tulip poplar
Symptoms
Tulip poplar tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 41℉. If the temperature drops below 15℉, while no immediate changes might be apparent in winter, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, preventing new growth.
Solutions
In spring, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of Heat Stress in Tulip poplar
Symptoms
In summer, Tulip poplar should be kept below 80℉. When temperatures go above 95℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in hue, their tips could dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any parts that are sunburned and dried out. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
