Signs of Cold Stress in Rosemary
Symptoms
Rosemary tolerates cool temperatures moderately well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it should be maintained above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 40℉, foliage may begin to sag. Mild cases can recover, but severe instances lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before future cold spells, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or cloth, and build a windbreak to shield it from cold gusts.
Signs of Heat Stress in Rosemary
Symptoms
In summer, Rosemary should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures rise above 85℉, leaves lighten in color, tips may dry and shrivel, foliage can curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sunburn.
Solutions
Prune off any sunburned and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
