Signs of Cold Stress in Chinese tallow
Symptoms
Chinese tallow tolerates cool temperatures moderately well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 68℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 59℉. If the temperature drops below 41℉, its foliage might begin to sag. Minor cases allow for recovery, but severe instances lead to wilting and eventual leaf drop.
Solutions
Remove any parts damaged by frost. Before subsequent cold spells, cover the plant with materials like non-woven fabric or burlap, and erect a windbreak to shield it from harsh winds.
Signs of Heat Stress in Chinese tallow
Symptoms
In summer, Chinese tallow should be kept below 77℉. When temperatures rise above 86℉, the leaves' hue lightens, their tips might dry and shrivel, they could curl, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Prune off any sun-scorched and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the intense midday and afternoon sun, or deploy a shade cloth for cover. Irrigate the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
