Signs of Cold Temperatures in Chinese elm
Symptoms
Chinese elm tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, maintain temperatures above 50℉. If temperatures drop below 30℉, while no immediate winter changes may be apparent, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, with no new growth emerging.
Solutions
During spring, remove any dead branches that have not produced new foliage.
Signs of High Temperatures in Chinese elm
Symptoms
In summer, Chinese elm should be maintained below 70℉. When temperatures surpass 85℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in hue, their tips could dry and wither, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or deploy a shade cloth. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
