Signs of Cold Stress in Ironweed
Symptoms
Ironweed tolerates cold well and flourishes optimally when temperatures exceed 65℉. In winter, it needs to be maintained above 55℉. If temperatures drop below 40℉, while no immediate winter changes might be apparent, there could be reduced or absent sprouting in spring.
Solutions
In springtime, remove any sections that have not sprouted.
Signs of Heat Stress in Ironweed
Symptoms
In summer, Ironweed should be kept below 75℉. When temperatures go above 85℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in color, tend to curl, become prone to sun damage, and in severe instances, the whole plant could wilt and dry out.
Solutions
Remove any parts that are sunburned and dried. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
