Signs of Cold Temperatures in Hazel alder
Symptoms
Hazel alder tolerates cold well and flourishes when temperatures exceed 60℉. In winter, it needs to stay above 50℉. If the temperature drops below 40℉, while no immediate winter changes might be apparent, branches can become brittle and dry by spring, preventing new growth.
Solutions
Once spring arrives, remove any dead branches that haven't produced new foliage.
Signs of High Temperatures in Hazel alder
Symptoms
In summer, Hazel alder should be maintained below 75℉. When temperatures surpass 80℉, the plant's leaves might lighten in hue, their tips could dry and shrivel, and the plant becomes more prone to sun damage.
Solutions
Remove any sun-damaged and desiccated sections. Relocate the plant to a spot offering protection from midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth for cover. Water the plant in the morning and evening to maintain soil moisture.
