A species of Hypholoma. Also known as Brick tuft, Red woodlover, Kuritake.

This particular species of tufting mushroom, known as the Brick Cap, typically thrives on the decaying remains of hardwood stumps and logs. It exhibits a notable preference for oak wood. While sharing many characteristics with its relatives, the Sulfur Tuft or Conifer Tuft, its distinguishing feature is its distinctive brick-red colored cap. It is strongly advised not to consume Brick Caps, as they are considered inedible and are prone to inducing digestive upset.
