For an extended period, the elegant parasol mushroom (Macrolepiota clelandii) was incorrectly categorized with various other Macrolepiota species. However, recent DNA analysis has definitively established its distinct species status. Nevertheless, this mushroom exhibits considerable variation in its morphology. Its native habitat is restricted to Australia and New Zealand. The question of its edibility remains unresolved.
