Dung roundhead

Protostropharia semiglobata

A species of Protostropharia. Also known as Halfglobe mushroom.

The fungus known as the dung roundhead (Protostropharia semiglobata) takes its name from two prominent characteristics. Firstly, this mushroom frequently grows on or close to animal droppings, making it a familiar presence in pastures or cultivated regions. The roundhead part refers to the species' cap, which is smooth and nearly perfectly hemispherical (a feature also reflected in its scientific name, semiglobata). Dung roundheads are found all over the world.
