The square bamboo (Chimonobambusa quadrangularis) is persistent and forms leptomorphic rhizomes. The woody stalks grow upright and reach a height of 3 to 8 m and a diameter of 1.02 to 4 cm. The internodes are bluntly square in cross-section and 8 to 23 cm long. It is hollow, bristly under the knots with hair growing on small nodules.
