Jeffrey pine (Pinus jeffreyi)
Jeffrey pine, also known as Bull Pine, Yellow pine
The Jeffrey pine, a tall and long-lived conifer, is found mainly in the mountains of California, including the Sierra Nevada, Transverse Ranges, and Peninsular Ranges. Its range also extends into southwestern Oregon, western Nevada, and northern Baja California, Mexico. Notably, its bark and twigs emit a sweet, vanilla-like aroma when broken. However, the Jeffrey pine is susceptible to dwarf mistletoe (Arceuthobium spp.), which can significantly harm its seedlings.
