Pussy willow (Salix discolor)

Pussy willow (Salix discolor) is a deciduous shrub that thrives in moist soils, often found near ponds, streams, and lakes. It grows best in full sun to partial shade and prefers medium to wet soil conditions. In spring, it produces distinctive yellow-green catkins that resemble a cat's paw, giving the plant its name. Male plants are particularly noted for their attractive silky, pearl-gray catkins, while female plants have smaller, less striking blooms.
